Deadville - Featured Title

Deadville by Ron Kortege - Ever since his little sister's death, Ryan has been trying to stay oblivious of the world around him by getting stoned and always listening to loud music through his earphones. But when Charlotte Silano, a popular girl at his high school, falls into a coma due to a tragic horseriding accident, his view on life changes. Though Ryan never knew Charlotte personally, the thought of her being alone in the hospital makes him want to visit her.

Somehow being with Charlotte helps Ryan to snap out of his "zombie-like" attitude towards life. Ryan begins to make better life decisions, is able to cope with losing his sister, and even meets a new girlfriend through his visits with Charlotte at the hospital.

This book is a great read for teens because the story really speaks to teens without sounding fake. Ryan is a believable character who shows a great example of triumph over tragedy. Recommended for grades 9 and up.
